a) Write four components of internal environment and explain any one of it.
Four major components of internal environment are as follows;

  • its owners,
  • the board of directors,
  • employees and organized labor, and
  • the organization’s culture, structure

Owners: The owners of a business are the people who have a legal property right to the business. They may be proprietors, partners and shareholders. Depending upon types of organizations and the nature of business, they are directly or indirectly involved in management of the business.

b) Make a list of Roles of Manager in an organization.
A manager’s role is very crucial in an organization. The success of organization depends upon manager’s ability in utilizing the resources for achieving the pre determined goals. Major roles of manager are as follows;

  • Interpersonal Role
  • Informational Role
  • Decisional Role

c) What is MBO? Write down four steps of MBO process.
Management by objectives is a process of defining objectives within an organization so that management and employees agree to the objectives and understand what they need to do in the organization. Steps of MBO process are;

  • Setting organizational purpose and objectives
  • Cascade objectives down to employees
  • Setting subordinates objectives
  • Monitor progress
  • Evaluate and reward performance

d) What is communication? Write four barriers to communication.
Communication is the process of transformation of information from one person to another to fulfill common interest. It is the exchange of facts, opinions, ideas, suggestions and other information. Any four barriers ot communication are;

  • Language barrier
  • Organizational barrier
  • Interpersonal barrier
  • Channel barrier

e) Define organization and mention its five features.
Organizations are collections of interacting and inter related human and non-human resources working toward a common goal or set of goals within the framework of structured relationships. Five features of organization are as follows;

  • Collection of people
  • Common goal
  • Social institution
  • Division of work
  • Hierarchy of authority

f) Give the meaning of Line and Staff organization structure. Present the line and staff organization in graphical form.
Line and Staff organization structure is the combination of functional and line organization structure. Under this structure, Line people are special employees to support executives and staff people are experts and specialists.

g) What is the theory developed by Douglas McGregor? Draw a figure of hierarchy of needs in ladder form.
Theory X and Theory Y is the theory developed by Douglas McGregor. Theory X and Theory Y are the two distinct view of human beings. Theory X basically negative and Theory y positive.

h) What do you understand by the principle of Span of Control and principle of authority and responsibility under principles of management.
Principle of span of control states that there is a limit to the number of subordinates that the superior can supervise.
Under principle of authority and responsibility, authority is legal power and responsibility is the obligation to perform the work. This principle states that authority should flow from responsibility while responsibility should be accompanied by authority. Both should flow together.

i) Give full forms of QC, TQM, MIS, DSS, PERT, CPM.
The full form of
QC : Quality Control
TQM : Total Quality Mangement
MIS : Management Information System
DSS : Decision Support System
PERT : Program Evaluation and Review Technique
CPM : Critical Path Method

j) Point out the four barriers to effective communication and the four techniques to improve them.
Four barriers to effective communication are:

  • Language barrier
  • Organizational barrier
  • Interpersonal barrier
  • Channel barrier

And four technique to improve communication are;

  • Effective listening
  • Utilizing feedback
  • Simplifying language
  • Avoid information overhead
