Meaning/Concept of Communication
The word “communication” derived from the Latin word ‘communis’, means common. Communication is the process of transformation of information from one person to another to fulfill common interest. It is the exchange of facts, opinions, ideas, suggestions and other information. Communication is a continuous process and basis for managerial function. Managers provide information of instruction, guidance, and suggestion to subordinates to implement plans and policies. It is life blood of any organization because management depends upon communication to realize enterprise objectives. In an organizational set up, communication is the means by which people are linked together for a common purpose.

Communication is a process that involves exchange of information, thoughts, ideas and emotions. It may be oral, in writing or through signs or gestures. Communication is a process that involves a sender who encodes and sends the message, which is then carried via the communication channel to the receiver where the receiver decodes the message, processes the information and sends an appropriate reply via the same communication channel.Similarly communication can be defined in different ways by different people. So here is standard definitions given by some personnel:-

Communication is an exchange of facts, ideas, opinions or emotions by two or more persons. – “Newman and Summer”
Communication is the process of transmitting information from one person to another. – “Ricky W.Griffin”
Communication is the transfer of information from a sender to receiver with the information being understood by the receiver. – ”Koontz and Weihrich”

Hence, Communication is:
• A process which involves people
• A process through which information is transmitted from one person to another.
• An exchange of information between a sender and a receiver in which both the parties share the meaning of the message.
• A two-way process between individuals or groups.
