Feasibility Study
Feasibility study is one of the main activities in requirement engineering process. In this phase estimate is made of whether the identified user needs may be satisfied using current software and hardware technologies. It considers whether the proposed system will be cost effective from a business point of view and if it can be developed within existing budgetary constraints. It should be relatively cheap and quick, so that it can be bound within budget planned.

The result should inform the decision of whether or not to go ahead with a more detailed analysis. It should answer the question like: (a) Does the system contribute to overall objectives of organization? (b) Can the system be implemented within schedule and budget using current technology? (c) Can the system be integrated with other system that are used.

The activities involved in feasibility study are as follows:-

  • Appraisal of existing system and manual process
  • Troubleshooting
  • Process re-engineering
  • Risk analysis and assessment
  • Risk management
  • Cost benefit analysis
  • Impact analysis
  • Analysis for the integration of existing and new system
  • Resource requirements planning and timings
  • Implementation strategy
  • Infrastructure assessment and requirements
  • Analysis of dependencies and requirements
  • Support requirements and logistical analysis
